As the winds continue to blow, we continue to take what Mother Nature dishes out. We have been fortunate to still find some good catches of trout and a very dependable redfish bite. Still seeing plenty of smiles from happy clients as they head home from Baffin. With a little luck, I think it'll stay that way.
Hot baits this week have been Plum Norton Sand Eels and dark Strawberry Brown Devil Eyes. Our topwater bite was a little inconsistent for trout but tremendous for redfish. Bone Super Spook Jr.'s and Pearl Skitterwalks have worked best. Also, any color paddle tail plastics rigged on light jigheads and burned just below the surface have elicited ferocious strikes from reds.
Had the pleasure of fishing a two boat trip with some friends from alamoareaanglers and lonestarsharkers websites. This has become an annual trip and each year seems to get a little more fun than the previous one. This year was no exception.
Terry, Mark, Marcus, Rob, Benson, Gaylon, Carlos and Mr Canales (Marcus' Dad) all arrived at my place Saturday night and a delicious supper of fajitas and sausage was served up. A few adult beverages and a game plan for the next day rounded out the afternoon.
Everyone was bright eyed and bushy tailed the next morning as we fueled up on coffee and sausage biscuits. We piled into our respective boats and headed out into a brisk 20mph "breeze?".
My crew was set for some hardcore wading so we hit some good looking water on the south shoreline that had been very productive recently. We ground it out for almost three hours with only three trout to show for our efforts.
The other bunch fishing with Capt. Benny Whisler wasn't having much better luck other than Benson's solid trout that ended up winning Big Trout honors for the weekend (sorry, no pics).
I decided to try our hand at some redfish and headed to a skinny water haunt on the south shoreline. Carlos came through with the first of several good redfish.

He did have a bit of trouble landing a few of the reds after that. I had to get him to check and make sure he still had a hook on there after he lost his 4th of the day LOL.
Marcus took up some of the slack with this pair of rubberlips.

The winds continued to build and we decided to head in and regroup for the next day. It was time for a few adult beverages as most of the group took advantage of the pool. No pics of this but believe me, you really didn't want to see that anyway LOL.
1 1/4" thick, medium rare ribeye steaks with baked potatoes and a little rabbit food (salad) topped off the afternoon. Then things got serious as the poker fanatics got geared up.
I won't go into details but suffice it to say, I made sure I got my tip LOL.
The gang was moving a whole lot slower the next day and even had a couple that decided to phone it in (no names ------- Mark, Terry).
Finally got everyone moving and we headed off into the brisk morning winds again. This time we headed straight for the scene of our most recent success.
It took us a couple of hours to find them but when we did, it got hot and heavy in a hurry. I played cameraman to some great skinny water action.
Carlos started it off like he did the day before. This time he landed all he hooked.

And a little video clip of Brujo in action

Rob got in on the action

Then Marcus

Carlos and Marcus were first back to the boat exhausted but with wide smiles with heavy stringers of reds. WTG guys!!

Carlos' 19 spot red

Rob ended with the heaviest stringer and biggest redfish for the weekend. Good job my friend.

We let the winds push us home and these guys are already planning one heck of a fish fry when they get home.
As usual, it was great fishing with you guys. Hope to see y'all down here again real soon.
Remember to practice conservation and just keep 5. Later, Aubrey
